Castle in the Clouds from back grounds area
My Husband and I toured the Castle in the Clouds on a day trip around Lake Winnipesaukee in October a couple of years ago. Spectacular!!!!
The scenic winding road through the forested area up the mountain to the old stables area was a beautiful fall drive. There are many scenic pulloffs with beautiful views including a waterfall.
You park at the stables and then are taken by a tram on up to the castle. We ate lunch at the cafe there on the way down. Rustic.
The castle is amazing! Definately take the guided Castle tour. Some of the modern conveniences are very ingenious considering the castle was built in 1913. The views of the Lake and the surrounding mountains alone are worth the trip. The multi spray shower was interesting and was way ahead of its time. There are many Interesting antiques in the castle which also has beautiful grounds and a good view from every window.
We hiked one of several hiking trails over to a peaceful waterfall. Pretty mountain top views. You apparently can also access the many miles of hiking trails from an access area near the entrance from the highway. We wished we had had another day to come back and hike more of the beautiful trails and have lunch at one of the many scenic overlooks!
The Castle in the Clouds Day trip was definitely our most Favorite Attraction from the places we visited during our week in the New Hampshire White Mountains. Don't miss this!
